Working Principle and Structural Characteristics of Vertical Oil-Free Reciprocating Vacuum Pump

The vertical oil-free reciprocating vacuum pump is one type of equipment for achieving dry vacuum. It adopts a vertical structure design and oil-free lubrication technology. Currently, there are various models such as the WLW series available on the market, and it is widely used in industries such as chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, and food, where high vacuum cleanliness is required.

Working principle and structural features

Working principle: The pump cavity volume changes through the reciprocating motion of the piston within the cylinder, thereby achieving the intake and discharge of gas.

Inhalation stage: When the piston moves downward, the volume of the pump chamber increases, and the internal pressure is lower than that of the container being pumped. Gas enters the pump chamber through the intake valve.

Exhaust stage: When the piston moves upward, the volume of the pump chamber decreases, and the gas is compressed. When the pressure is higher than the external atmospheric pressure, the exhaust valve opens and the gas is expelled.

Structural Characteristics:

With the vertical structure design, the floor space required is approximately two-thirds less compared to the horizontal pump.

Realize complete isolation between the crankcase and the cylinders, and combine with self-lubricating material piston rings to achieve the effect of oil-free lubrication.

Eliminate the adverse vibrations of the waves, resulting in lower working noise and smooth operation.

Difference from horizontal pumps:

The vertical pump is an updated and upgraded version of the W-shaped horizontal vacuum pump.

The power consumption has decreased by nearly one third, and the water consumption has reduced by half.


The wear rates of key components such as cylinders and piston rings have been significantly reduced, and the lifespan of the valves has increased by more than 50 times.

Model series and performance parameters

Common models:

WL Series: Single-stage vacuum extraction, with a maximum vacuum of approximately 15 torr (about 2000 Pa), and a pumping rate of 50 - 600 L/S.

WLW Series: Oil-free vertical reciprocating vacuum pump, an updated version of the W-type product, offering an oil-free option.

2WL Series: Dual-stage vacuum extraction, with a maximum vacuum capacity of 1 Torr (approximately 133 Pa), meeting the requirements for higher vacuum levels.

Performance parameters:

Limiting pressure: For a single stage, it is generally within the range of 1330 to 2660 Pa, while for a double stage, it can reach 1 Pa.

Air extraction rate range: 45 - 20,000 cubic meters per hour.

Operating conditions: The temperature of the gas being drawn should generally not exceed 35℃. For corrosive gases, a neutralization device needs to be installed.

Chemical industry: Vacuum distillation, vacuum evaporation, vacuum concentration, vacuum impregnation, etc.

Pharmaceutical industry: Processes such as vacuum drying, vacuum crystallization, and vacuum filtration.
